The morning will begin at 9:30 at the Mineral Club of Wellington's Club room in Petone (Halford Place). Here, we will take a look at their fascinating collection of rocks, gems and minerals and browse through their library. From here, we will drive to the Pākuratahi River in Upper Hutt to go rock fossicking in the river. Here we can expect to find red jasper (sometimes with inclusions of haematite) metamorphosed basalt, quartz and possibly reddish jasper mottled with quartz. The morning should finish at about 12:30. You will need sturdy footwear (gumboots preferred), warm clothing as well as a change of clothes, just in case you get a bit too wet. Cost is $5 per family. Once you've purchased your family ticket, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know how many in your family will be attending.
